Service – Our Work

We are a ‘service club’ working in direct support of the local community and by helping locally based charities. This takes two forms – fundraising and practical assistance.

Fundraising

Every year we organise fundraising to generate the necessary funds to finance our projects – this may be for our general charity fund or may be targeted to a specific beneficiary. Fundraising takes several forms and in recent years has been concentrated on:

  • Charity collections at Christmas and other times – with kind permission of Tesco
  • Santa float collections in Aylesbury, Bierton, Stone and Waddesdon – using our own float
  • Paid assistance at local events – car park marshalling
  • Charity restaurant evenings – in partnership with local restaurants
  • Charity dinners with celebrity speakers – Speaker of the House of Commons
  • ‘Darts Marathon’ – using our own purpose built equipment
  • Musical events – Bucks Berks and Oxon Big Band

Organisations we have helped in recent years have included:

  • MIND
  • Young Carers
  • Cued Speech
  • Macmillan Cancer Support
  • Stroke Awareness Association
  • Canine Partners
  • The John Hampden Unit
  • Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance

We also raise funds for Rotary Foundation – Rotary International’s own charity. The funds generated are used to promote international goodwill and understanding through a very wide range of humanitarian and educational projects.
We have a history of working in partnership with other organisations to facilitate and to boost their fundraising. We are always keen to discuss opportunities to work in this way.

Practical Assistance

After a long association with Calibre as a volunteering group we are currently looking for new local opportunities as a team to make a real difference on a regular or one off basis. One offs have included painting the railings at the Queens Park Centre and garden creation work at Stoke Mandeville Hospital – in association with RAF Halton. In 2010 with the assistance of Aylesbury Vale District Council and community volunteers we made an unsuccessful attempt for an entry in to the Guinness Book of Records – no matter there will be an annual reminder of our glorious failure in the form of a blaze of colour in Vale Park Aylesbury where we planted several thousand crocuses in an hour. Staying on a floral theme we also planted daffodils on several of the main roads in to Aylesbury.
